This 988K is a dedicated hot pit machine, set up specifically for the application rather than run as a stock loader, and part of that setup is a plan for what happens when something goes wrong in the pit. What Does the Park Brake Release Switch Do?

If something happens to this machine in the hot pit, the operator can flip a park brake release switch built into the loader, which releases the park brake and allows the machine to free float in any direction. Instead of sitting locked in place in the pit, the 988K can be moved wherever it needs to go.

How Does the Recovery System Pull the Loader Out of the Pit?

The recovery system starts with a cable and hook mounted on the back of the loader. The truck this 988K dumps into carries a D-ring on its front end, hooked to the clevis underneath, so that same haul truck can hook onto the rear of the loader and pull it out of harm’s way without waiting on outside equipment.
