We do our best to prevent incidents, but when a vehicle crash happens, proper documentation right after the collision can make a big difference in the outcome.
What Should You Document After a Crash?
Capture the scene, the people, and the details while they are fresh.
- The day, date, and time of the crash
- The weather and road conditions, plus any contributing factors like a blind rise or hidden driveway
- The location, including cross streets and town
- Clear details on what happened
- The other driver’s information, including name, address, phone number, plate number, VIN, and insurance
- Passengers involved, including how many, their names, and phone numbers
- Any injuries reported and whether anyone was transported to a hospital by ambulance
- Whether any vehicles were towed from the scene
- Witness names and phone numbers, and whether they took pictures
- Police and officer information, including badge number, department, report number, and how to get a copy
- A diagram of how the crash occurred
- Plenty of pictures, including license plates, VINs, the scene, and any injuries
