How Do You Safely Clear Snow?

SafetyToolbox Talks

Clearing snow is a necessity, but it can be extremely dangerous. Keep walking paths clear, and make sure your view from a vehicle is unobstructed by clearing all your windows before driving.

What Are the Tips for Clearing Snow Safely?

Protect your back and your heart while you work.

  • Do not shovel immediately after eating or while smoking
  • Push the snow rather than lifting it when possible
  • If you must lift, lift with your legs, not your back, and do not take full scoops
  • Dress in layers and wear breathable clothes
  • Take breaks rather than trying to get through it all at once
  • Know the signs of a heart attack
